SD Approved for the Towson University Burdick Hall Expansion

Schematic Design for the Towson University Burdick Hall expansion has received approval.  The $34M, 94,500-GSF expansion and renovation project is scheduled to be completed in Fall 2017 and is the final component of a multiple-phase renovation of the existing building that is home to Campus Recreation Services, as well as academic programs such as Kinesiology and Athletic Department programs such as baseball and swimming. The completed project will provide the University with a state-of-the art recreation facility that is commensurate with, and meets the needs of, a university the size of TU.  The project includes an expanded fitness center, areas for group fitness instruction, an indoor running track, multi-activity courts, climbing center, multiple gymnasiums, and a 25-yard swimming pool.  Additionally, the new facility will connect and complete previously completed portions of the Campus Site and Safety Improvement project, the University’s endeavor to provide an east-west pedestrian spine through campus.  Together with the anticipated expansion of the Student Union, the expansion of Burdick Hall and the completion of the pedestrian walkway will realize the University’s vision of creating a centralized Student Life precinct on campus.  GWWO is working with 360 Architecture, AOR and design architects, on the project, which is being designed to achieve LEED Silver certification.  Previously in 2013, GWWO worked with Towson University to complete the programming for the expansion.
